Anodisation Surface Solutions (A.SS)

When anodising, the aluminium component is anodically treated in an acid electrolyte and the process transforms the aluminium surface to aluminium oxide. The resulting aluminium oxide layer is 15-25 µm thick and possesses capillary-like pores. When individually dyeing anodised surfaces with Anodised Individual, the excellent ability of the pore structure to absorb fluids is exploited in order to fill the pores with special dyes. After dyeing, the pores are closed by means of a chemical reaction that transforms the aluminium oxide to aluminium hydroxide. The anodised layer then formed by this process is extremely hard and wear-resistant.

However, Anodisation Surface Solutions (A.SS) go one step further. They make it possible to create individually customised metallic coatings, not only selecting the colour, but also the entire visual design. Logos, texts, images, consecutive numbers, barcodes, etc. can now be integrated in the anodisation process, accurate in every detail. A.SS make use of a printing process in which the lettering, image or logo are captured in the anodised layer of the aluminium. The dye is therefore not applied to the surface, but integrated and protected within the material. Using state-of-the-art digital printing technology, even photorealistic images and halftone printing as well as colour gradients can be easily implemented. The A.SS process does not require the films and screens normally needed for screen printing and even changing texts, consecutive numbering and barcodes can be reproduced.

Further anodisation processes

  1. Individually designed anodised surfaces with personally selected colouring, images, logos, etc.
  2. A wide range of colours and special colours, including transparent and black
  3. Unsaturated colours or colour mixtures can also be selected
  4. Highly decorative surfaces; defined gloss levels possible, from matt to glossy
  5.  Colouring, appearance and haptics reproducible
  6. Wear- and scratch-resistant aluminium oxide coating featuring hardness up to 500 HV (fingernail test, sticky tape test, flying sparks test)
  7. High electrical insulation effect
  8. Very high temperature stability
  9. Overprint is resistant to solvents and alcohol
  10. Can be applied to hybrid materials
  11. Can also be easily applied to structured surfaces
  12. Workpieces free of damage and distortion
  13. UV-resistant, depending on the shade
  14. Non-toxic
  15. Clean, smooth surfaces: the images or lettering captured in the anodised surface are not felt
  16. Plate sizes up to 600 x 1800 mm can be coated using A.SS
